A fine and very large walnut brass banded military campaign writing slope with fitted rosewood interior. Finished with a stunning teal blue gold tooled leather writing surface with centre pull tabs, a very rare document section beyond the two 19th century inkwells*, lower section folds to reveal a large storage well and the smaller top section is adorned with three secret doors accessed by raising part of the right-hand inkwell. Below this is a brass pin which when removed allows access to the full size drawer within. This is a very scarce slope, very large and fully intact. Measuring 20cm H x 27cm D x 50cm W (55cm D when opened) Inscription you’re the top centre lozenge: Presented to Mr W.M.Handcock by members of the Burnopefield (Durham) Flower Show for his efficient services as Treasurer. May 13th 1897 (Although I believe the slope to be older than this date) Condition: Outer veneers: excellent. Outer brass banding: complete but has minor scratches from past cleaning. Locks: outer & inner - both present, key for inner lock, I may be able to source a period outer key. Leather: excellent Tooling: excellent Rosewood veneers: excellent Inkwells: 19th Century however one has damage to corner of glass. Secret drawer mechanism: excellent Base: felt lined- excellent
